Depo Provera for Free, Danazol @ 144 per tab

I use depo-provera to suppress the growth of my endometrial cysts. In the Philippines, depo-provera along with other contraception such as condom, pills and IUDs are promoted by the Department of Health, absolutely free. You just have to go to a rural health center and look for a rural health worker to get your shot. Just a warning,  continuous use of depo-provera increases the risk of breast, uterine, and ovarian cancer.

I am also taking danazol/ladogal 200 mg which costs 144 pesos per tab. Since the doctor prescribed 400 mg that makes it 288 per day times 31 days. You just do the math. Like depo-provera, danazol has its own scary side effects, in addition to increase risk of cancer in the ovary, you add, liver and kidney. The less serious side effects are tightness in the chest and throat which goes up to the neck a few minutes after taking the pill – a condition that mimics death and I thought I’d died, vaginal bleeding which in my case has been running for two weeks and weight gain (one lb in 2 weeks is not that bad). The other symptom which has not yet manifested in me are acne, mild hirsutism (hairiness – yuck!) and to add to the insult to womanity, a reduction in breastsize (God Forbid!). The latter scares me to my wits – which is the reason why in addition to the real side effects, I am suffering, I am imagining all sorts of symptoms that will convince the doctor I should stop danazol. I am doing this for a reason and one. First, which is to retain my breast size and second to reduce my soaring medical bills.

There’s also a birth control injection which costs 7000 pesos per month. The name I forgot. It is slightly cheaper than danazol but the problem with an injectable is that there is never a chance of withdrawing the hormones from your body as in the case of allergies like mine. So today, I am defying the doctors prescription by taking only one dozage, which reduced the side effects including hot flashes that bathes me from head to toe in the wee hours of the morning and a 24-hour body itch.

So you have a choice guys. I am making mine soon sans doctors orders.

  1. Hi, miss. Glad to know there really are Pinays who actually use their noggin on the Internet.

I just want to make sure I understand your information on Depo Provera. Are you saying I can get a shot of Depo for free at any rural clinic? If so, why does it have to be rural? How about hospitals in Metro Manila? Even if there’s a charge for it within the city, I’m interested in taking Depo as a contraceptive. How could one ask for a shot in as incognito a manner as possible?

I just really don’t want to get preggers but sex is too fun, Diana 35 is scary (compared to Depo), and condoms break.

  2. Depo is absolutely free. Go to a public hospital in your city and mask your face if you don’t want to be identified. Just kidding. they’ll usually ask you questions, so just be prepared.

  3. Does PGH give free depo provera? Do i need to see an OB in PGH ?

  4. You can see your own OB. And bring your results to the clinic. I’m not sure if PGH gives free depo provera. But you can ask. I got mine from our barangay clinic for free.

  6. hello.im anjoe and im 23 im interested to depo provera im in philipines.i just want to ask if how much depo cost.can you tell me?i have searched the internet and they say that depo provrera treats male hyper sexuality and im hyper ssexual and it is not normal its affecting my study and work.im counting on you sister Cor.pls help me.

    • hi anjoe,
depo is free for women of childbearing age at rural health clinics. there are also depo for sale for about 200-500 at OB-gyne clinics. but i suggest you see a psychiatrist or better yet a clinical psychologist to better diagnose you of your disorder, if ever there is. the medication will come later through the psychiatrist once a correct diagnosis is arrived at. hyper sexuality may be indicative of another medical/mental problem. don’t jump into the depo bandwagon yet, it stifles sexual appetite yes, but the side effect is terrible. i almost committed suicide. please make an informed decision. see the experts first. take care and godbless.

  7. Hi there! I was googling Depo-Provera and I stumbled upon your blog. I think there’s really a lack of informative sites where Pinays can share their experiences with Depo and other contraceptives, so your site was a pleasant surprise. Earlier today I visited my Ob-Gyn as I was planning to get a prescription for contraceptives and I decided on the injectable Depo versus the pill since Im quite makalimutin (like sometimes I forget whether I’ve already taken my multi-vitamins for the day or not, so you can imagine if I have to add taking pills daily to my routine) and it was the fact that a shot of Depo lasts for 3 months that made me decide to have it.

Anyways, I was wondering if you have experienced any really adverse side effects from using it? Since it’s only been my first day, I really want to hear from someone who has actually been on Depo for a longer time. As per my Ob-Gyn, same side effects daw as the pill (weight gain, tender breasts, etc) which I think naman is bearable. The only pain I’m experiencing so far is the pain on my upper arm from the shot itself, haha!

Oh, and I paid P600 for my visit to my Ob-Gyn which includes the consultation fee and the Depo shot itself, which is okay lang considering that the shot lasts for 3 months… Pero, like you wrote, I’m thinking if going to the barangay health center next time para libre di ba! I mean that’s from our taxes naman so I think women should avail of the free contraceptives.

    Take care!
